Lisbon Oceanarium

The Lisbon Oceanarium is the world’s largest salt water aquarium and is a fantastic tourist attraction, especially for families. Inside the Oceanarium there are over 450 different species of animals, including sharks, rays, penguins and even two delightful sea otters.

The Lisbon Oceanarium is located in the Parque das Nações, which was built as the venue for the 1998 Lisbon World Exposition, Expo ’98.

It contains more than 15,000 creatures and over 450 different species.

It is divided into four large tanks, including a massive central one, that represent the world’s four major oceanic ecosystems: the rocky North Atlantic coast, the tropical Indian coral reefs, the temperate Pacific kelp forests and the Antarctic coastline.

The first thing you will see when you arrive at the Lisbon Oceanarium is the central tank, which is indisputably the most impressive one of all. This tank contains five million litres of salt water and has four huge glass windows each measuring 40 m2 through which you can observe the marine life inside. The windows are strategically positioned so that you can enjoy different viewpoints as you make your way around the Oceanarium.

Hours
